Daniel
Hutchinson has been teaching different forms of body movement for over 20
years. He used to teach Katas which are patterned forms from the martial arts.
They’re a dance against imaginary foes that early practioners would use to
memorize and teach others their specific defense moves. After finding an
affinity for teaching and body movement, he discovered his true passions. He
received some complimentary dance lessons and then saw his first Ohio Star Ball
on OPB. He was instantly hooked! Such emotion, such finesse! He knew he just
had to share this experience with absolutely everyone.
He
then embarked upon an intensive dance training regime. He and his dance partner
practiced 7 days a week for hours on end, staying up until the wee hours of the
morning. He feels he was very fortunate to have had such excellent coaches from
the Seattle area who would frequently come to Portland. He also was able to
benefit from world-class competitors who would come to Portland to perform
shows and give coaching lessons as well.
Daniel
has made his home at the Ankeny Street Studio, but he can also be found DJ-ing
and occasionally teaching for Sesame Club at the Norse Hall.
